Meet Shaun
Shaun Minter is the co-founder and Managing Director of Departure Pets, Australia’s trusted name in domestic and international pet transport. His path to founding the business wasn’t a corporate one – it was shaped by a lifetime spent with animals.
Growing up on a farm, Shaun was surrounded by animals from an early age. That upbringing sparked a genuine passion that followed him into adulthood, leading him to pursue ethical fish and bird breeding before turning his focus to the broader world of live animal transport. Along the way, he developed hands-on expertise in animal handling and behaviour, earning formal qualifications that gave him a strong foundation in animal welfare and care.
Alongside his work with animals, Shaun pursued his interest in business, completing a Diploma in Management at UNSW Business School. Earlier in his career, he gained practical experience as a Machine Operator at Tibaldi and as an Owner Manager at Brighton Poultry – roles that sharpened his understanding of operations, logistics, and the responsibility that comes with managing living things.
It was the combination of these two worlds – animal welfare and business management – that led Shaun to co-found Departure Pets. His vision was simple: to create a pet transport experience that felt personal, professional, and genuinely centred on the wellbeing of the animals in its care.
Today, Shaun oversees all domestic pet transport and international pet transport services at Departure Pets, bringing with him years of experience in coordinating the safe movement of animals across Australia and internationally. Every process, every policy, and every team decision reflects his commitment to getting pets from A to B safely and with as little stress as possible – for the animal and their family.
